Myths
When vulcan was born he couldn't move properly and he looked quite ugly. Disgusted that he was their son, Juno and Jupiter threw him out of Heaven. He was falling for a long time until he finally landed on a place called Lemnos. This place was later on said to be the location of his temple and his sacred palace. He soon learnt to create tools and weapons from the mortals and as he grew he started to do just that. Suprised at his son's sudden developement, Jupiter welcomed Vulcan back to Heaven where he could forge all weapons and tools for the gods. While he did take the title, God of Forging and Fire, he remained on Earth underneath a volcano where he would work with the Cyclops to create armor, weapons, and tools for some mortals and Gods.
In a different version of this story it was told that he was not born with lame legs. Juno tried to put Jupiter to sleep forever, but when the angry god awoke he hung Juno in the sky as punishment. Sick of his parents fighting, Vulcan tried to free Juno from the sky but was caught by Jupiter. Angered by his own son betraying him, Jupiter picked up Vulcan and threw him out of Heaven. He landed on Earth legs first and shattered his bones and torn his muscles. He then bacame lame and couldn't walk properly without the assistance of someone or something.
In another myth it said that to get back at Juno for throwing him out of heaven, he forged the most beautiful looking throne that she just couldn't resist sitting in. As soon as she sat in it though, she was tightly held down to it and no one could break her out, except Vulcan. Juno and many other gods pleaded for him to release her, but he refused. Finally, after a few drinks with Bacchus, Jupiter offered Venus's (goddess of love, said to be the most beautiful goddess ) hand, which Vulcan gladly accepted. He released Juno and fled to earth with Venus were they got married.
It was said in one myth that Hephaestus and Vulcan soon combined into one.He also made Minerva (Athena), by splitting Jupiter's head open with an axe to cure a headache Jupiter was having. In the myth of Pandora, he was the one who created the first woman with the aid of his father Jupiter. He also created the chains and shackles that held the firebringer of the humans. He did all this on his father's orders not knowing it would cause so much harm.
